See Sackboy star in a Music Video

Watch the embedded video as the Indie Pop band, Beat Crusaders and Little Big Planet's very own Sackboys dance to some very cool electronic beats. The song is called Phantom Planet. The band Beat Crusaders is from Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. Isn't it amazing how little our very own big planet really is?

Xbox360 controller on a PS3, that's blasphemous!

If you're a fan of the Xbox360's controller and you love the power of your PS3, XCM has part of the answer for you. XCM has announced an adapter which allows you to hook up your 360's wired controller into your PS3's USB port. They have the Cross Battle Adapter & the Cross Battle Adapter Plus adapter. The Plus allows for Rumble to work. With a MSRP of $39.99, I can't see these flying off the shelf, but if this is what is holding you back from playing some awesome PS3 games then this might be your answer. I know my Dual Shock will still be connecting wirelessly to my PS3 for a long time, but if you do pick this item up, just remember that the games that do take advantage of the Six Axis tilt functions wont work with this setup.

Rumor: PS3 Firmware 2.70 details

If what Neobara has posted, in the GT forum, is true; PS3's Firmware 2.70 update could be huge! It sounds as if Sony is listening to its loving public. Here is what was leaked from what sounds like a reputable source from Sony's R&D department.

Friends List:
  • Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
  • Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
  • Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.
Gamer Card & Trophies:
  • Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
  • Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting "Recent Trophy History" option.
  • Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background.
  • Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.
In-Game XMB:
  • Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience.
  • "Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
  • Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
  • Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
  • Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.
Misc:
  • Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements.

Killzone2, have you herd of it?

In just a few days you might catch a glimpse of Killzone 2 FPS gaming goodness while you are watching your favorite TV show. Sony has revealed its upcoming commercial for the AAA title Killzone 2. Watch the embedded video clip to see all the finely nit details of the game in this advanced preview of its commercial. Before you watch, this video is rendered real-time with the games own graphic rendering engine. In other words, this is all the visual HD detail you'll be experiencing except at its glorious full speed!

The release date isn't coming soon enough for most gamers, but it's only a few days away till its eminent release date of February 27. I know I have my copy pre-ordered and I am chomping at the bit to play this one! I think Sony and its developer Guerrilla Games has got a blockbuster on their hands, even USA Today seems to think so. This is just what the PS3 needs to keep its momentum going into 2009 as the premier gaming system that it is.

Burnout Paradise City DLC Legendary Cars

Burnout Paradise DLC Legendary Cars is going live this week. What can we expect from this cars pack? The obvious, more cars! But if you pick this up you are going to get some of the best replicated cars from TV and Movie history, Criterion style. You'll get a replica of the futuristic Delorean similar to the one used from Back to the Future, Kit from Night Rider, Dukes of Hazard's General Lee, and the replicated Ghostbusting Ecto 1. Criterion Games is readying the PSN servers this Thursday, February 19th for this big release. My anticipation is ready to race! See you online!

For more information on this DLC, visit Criterion Games.

Midway Games Finishing Move

Things aren't looking too good for Midway Games. The once mighty arcade developer may have taken its final blow! No, not from one of its greatest games, Mortal Combat, but from its financial woes. After filing for Chapter 11 it has been taken off the New York Stock Exchange. This might be the "finishing move" for Midway Games, but I have a feeling this wont be Mortal Combats last round.

Behind the Scenes with Flower

This week Sony has launched the amazing game, Flower onto the PlayStation Network as a down loadable title. Watch the video of the behind the scenes look at how the developers came up with this insightful game.

My opinion of the game has been met with great awe. My wife and I had played this game and took away a unique experience. From the technically amazing and detailed landscapes to the concept of what is Flower. The game controls perfectly with the Six-Axis tilt controls. Without Sony's unique controller this game would be technically impressive as every blade of grass is rendered beautifully in real time, but the feel of Flower is uniquely created with the elegant flow of the Size-Axis tilt control. Total game play will last you around 1.5 hours, but I can see myself going back again for more zen-like game play.

Noby Noby Boy, I mean Nobody can explain this game!

In Sony's blog, Keita Takahashi of Bandi Games can't even explain what the heck is going on in their upcoming PSN game, Noby Noby Boy. After viewing the video nothing becomes any clearer. I will hold my scorns till after its release on February 19th. Until then I think I'll watch some Discovery Channel to feel a little more enlightened. This video preview looks terrible! Of course I was never a fan of the same creators Katamari series. Give us some feed back of what you think.

Pint Sized God of War 3 trailer

Looks like God of War 3 is coming along nicely, as shown at Sony's Q&A Press Event. The trailer has been extended since the weak showing at the 2008 Video Game Awards. Here you can see Kratos angrier than ever as he scales from his normal sized Greek methods of violence to a flea sized vigilante. Nothing seems to be able to intimidate him! Unfortunately, there is no information on its release date. Watch the attached trailer for a better look at this generations God of button smashers! Now aren't you glad you've chosen the dark side, PS3. ;) This Blogger can't wait for this release!

Spring is in the air!

Puxatony Phil might have seen his shadow, which mean 6 more weeks of Old Man Winter, but the PSN has released the highly anticipated game, Flower. This artistic free flowing game plays like nothing we've seen. It looks surreal and uses our Six Axis controllers masterfully. Spring may not be outside yet, but at least Flower can help us dream about it a bit. Watch the video preview below to experience a little Flowers dreams.

There's always two sides to the story

SCEA's Hardware Marketing Manager, John Koller, has revealed that Sony is working on hybrid movie releases. What that means is that Blu-ray movies will start containing playable PS3 games on the same disc! Plus, we would still be able to transfer the movie for viewing onto the PSP's memory stick. Maybe they'd even have some bonus gaming for our PSP's!

During an interview with Video Business.com, Koller mentions that, "
We are actively pushing, and the way that we see the future is that the movie and the game are placed on the same disc . . . there are a lot of developers who say, we have this game based on a movie, wouldn’t it be great to marry these concepts?” Movie tie-ins with the games are not too far away! Koller says we'll see this technology being sold and marketed this year. There are several developers interested and are already developing this technology.

Lets face it, DVD's & Bu-ray's have always missed something when they where supposed to be "truly" interactive. This could be what has been missing. If Sony plays their cards right, our beloved PS3's may become the standard movie/game player in most family rooms. This can only be a good thing for everone involved.

Burnout Paradise has been restarted!

It's been a year full of amazing updates from Criterion Games, the creator of Burnout Paradise City. The game is just over one year old now. The price has dropped to an unresistable price of $19.99 and what a deal it is! This was 2008's racing game of the year and its publisher of the year on so many levels. Besides the upcoming premium DLC, they have updated the game once again! Now with what most people found to be a little annoying, where after you finished a race you couldn't just select a "restart" to try again. You needed to drive all the way back to the intersection, in the open city, and try the race again. Criterion Games has been listening to all of its loyal gamers and has added an immediate restart option. Now the wickedly fast arcade racer has been perfected, in my honest opinion, into a perfectly balanced racer. Although previous to this update, it did force you learn the streets of Paradise City a whole lot better. This new added option will satisfy everyone where you can choose to do both. We'll see you online in Paradise City.

LocoRoco2, what a great gift idea for Valentines ;-)

Well, the wait is finally over and what a long wait it has been. Time to dust off your PSP and load in your new UMD copy of LocoRoco2. The great thing about this is that it's only $19.99! Now don't tell my wife, but this will be our ....cough... her present for Valentines day. ;-)

Harmony in your living room

This has got to be the deal of the year! I've been wanting a Logitech Harmony remote for a very long time, but they have just been too expensive. Let me back up a bit, we had 5 remotes in our family room and I'm sure their are households with more. We are pretty tech savvy and didn't have too much trouble juggling all the remotes, but we still had all the remotes lying around on our coffee table. We had to deal with all the batteries needing replacement and the added clutter of 5 remotes, Martha Stewart wouldn't approve. The Logitech Harmony 720 remote now controls everything. It was straight forward to program, through a quick hook up to your PC's USB. Sign on with Logitech's easy to use web based setup software on your PC. You'll program your components in by entering in the Make and Model. Logitech will ask you a series of questions on how you'd like to set those components to function. It'll synchronize the remote, you'll unplug the USB, and you are off and running. One remote. One base station to charge it up on (ie- no batteries to drain your wallet).

Tiger Direct has this as a refurbished unit for only $69.99. Follow this link. When we got ours in the mail I was expecting a few nicks & bruises because it is refurbished, but it looked & works like new. We've had ours for over a month now and couldn't go back to our old ways at twice the price. What a real bargain!

Feel the love for Little Big Planet

Congradulations to Media Molecules and SCEE for its amazing mark left in gaming history for its fabulous not-so little title, Little Big Planet.

Oh, btw- This should happen semi-automatically, the next time you load in your copy of Little Big Planet you should download and update it to the latest patch, version 1.09. There are some important fixes to prevent you from getting some corrupted game saves. I personally haven't experienced any problems with the game, thank goodness!

PSN's Cuboid for free, not exactly

Ever since Sony updated the PS3's web browser, Flash based games on the web are open for business in your living room. The minute we saw the 3D puzzle game Cuboid advertised on PSN a few weeks ago it rang a bell. Cuboid looks like a very well polished version of a Flash based game called Bloxorz by Roboman. And guess what? It plays the same too. Now I'm not saying that the PSN version isn't worth it's $10 admission with its Trophies and HD graphics, but sometimes it feels good to get something for free!

You can play it by either using this link or by typing in http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/games/bloxorz
into your PS3's web browsers URL.

Flower will be sprouting on PSN very soon!

For those of you who have been keeping your shears sharpened for the game Flower since least years E3 show preview will be glad to see it finally sprouting onto the PSN this week. In fact it will be out on Thursday February 12th. Start freeing up your bandwidth and charge up your Six-Axis controllers as this will be a motion sensing experience you really shouldn't pass up. Ryan Clements from IGN.com has reviewed this game, 9.0 out of 10. Read his full review as this looks to be a truly organic experience. Stay tuned for my impressions later this week.

PS3 sells 20million units Worldwide!

The PS3 has sold 20 million units in less weeks than its arch enemy, XBOX360. This is even with Microsoft's price cuts! The momentum that 2008 has set is really strong. 2009 has some strong titles coming out as well. Will 2009 be Sony's year? Will Sony slash prices on it own PS3? Will Microsoft ever eliminate its defective RROD prone units? Stay tuned for 2009. Same web blog, same web format.

Time to dust off your Red Rider

Rockstar San Diego Games has announced Red Dead Redemption. This is a sequel to the entertaining PS2/Xbox game Red Dead Revolver. This is going to have an open world type system and is using Rockstar’s RAGE graphics engine that was used in GTA4. Get your saddles and boots shined up for this falls rodeo ride. Yee Haw!

Check your Playstation for Worms

Team17 Studio Director, Martyn Brown has confirmed that, "Yes, we can confirm that Worms is coming to PSN soon," revealed Brown. "...it's been fully optimised for the platform (including 1080p) and contains a lot more content than the original XBLA launch simply because there was no size limitation."

We should expect to seen the PSN version of Worms sometime in March.

Are Blu-Ray discs storage size too small?...

...Pioneer thinks so. They have developed a 16 layer BD (Blu-Ray Disc) that holds 400GB of data! The current dual layered BD holds 50GB of information. Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear series, must be jumping for joy after hearing this. Kojima has been reported to have had a difficult time fitting Metal Gear Solid 4 onto a 50GB BD. With amazing real-time CG quality cut scenes, great characters, plot, and cool plot twists. This is one well scripted game that lives up to all the hype. It took me an amazing 23+ hours to complete. It's hard to imagine the possibilities of 400GB worth of HD gaming! And yes, Pioneer is reporting that our beloved PS3 will certainly be able to read these discs. How is that for being future proof?

PSP fans have something to rejoice

If you have a PSP and haven't played the first LocoRoco you should take some time out and think real hard to ask yourself, why the heck not? This game seems to be what the PSP is made for! It has appeal for all gamers, controls perfectly, and will keep you entertained wherever you don't have access to your PS3 rig. It's pure fun.

In just a few days, February 10th, Sony's portable marvel will be blessed with a sequel to the first, LocoRoco2. It is priced for our tough economic times, under $20 bucks. With rave reviews posted on the web, this is a sure buy and has already been pre-ordered for this gamer.

What I have STILL been playing?

I've owned it for over one year now. I've beaten the game 3 times. I have found 50+ treasures without using any online guides and have to beat the game just one more time on Crushing to have my Platinum trophy. Give up? It's Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. This has been one of the most fun adventures that has ever graced my living room LCD. This would include any Hollywood blockbuster. This is an adventure, and I use the word adventure in a most savory of ways. If you haven't played it yet run out and rent-it, buy-it; do whatever you have to to play, I mean live, this game. Living through this visual wonder once will last you a compelling 10+ hours. With the addition of earn-able trophies to show off to your online friends, there is so much to keep you coming back to complete this adventure. This is a bargain to add onto your gaming library.

Game Informer to be ravaged by Kratos

The brutal star of God of War will be gracing the pages of the March issue of Game Informer. They will have some eye dropping screen shots and some unrevealed info on this PS3 blockbuster epic. Find out what button smashing violence awaits your Dual Shock 3!

Criterion getting chased by the cops again!...

...At least they have been in Burnout Paradise. It seams like Criterion Games hasn't given up on updating its racer of the year, Burnout Paradise with more DLC. They have just anounced that they will be adding cops and robbers to its chase. This time it will be premium paid DLC, but with support like Criterion Games has provided for free, all of last year, who can complain? This is one of the best arcade style driving experiences to date and it keeps getting better. A date hasn't been set, but keep your R2 stomped to the metal and we'll keep you posted when to load up. Over and out, roger.

Sony Style PS3 price cut?

Follow the link to get the best PS3 deal to date. By applying to Sony's credit card you will get $100 off your purchase of a PS3. That brings the price of Sony's shiny black box down to the low price of $299! Could this be an indication of where the price point needs to be? Should Sony just drop their price without any gimmicks? Most Sony critics think so, either way spread the good word.
